The Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for pay alignment for designers and senior designers at L.M. Ericsson (Lmi) Limited. The recommendation was signed on 18 June 1990. The union said faster increases to trainee rates had left designer and senior designer pay an estimated 24% behind. The company said it needed to set trainee entry pay at market rates to attract graduates. The Court found the agreed pay ranges were not unfair and said market-based increases for trainees did not give other grades a right to aligned pay.
