In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that the Irish Print Union meet Irish Press Newspapers Limited to discuss practical difficulties with the company’s proposed supplemental agreement, including a five-shift system. The interim recommendation was signed on 19 June 1990. The talks were to take place before a later, detailed recommendation on the changes. The Court said the meeting would be without prejudice to the union’s objection in principle to the five-shift system, and intended the parties to return with a list of unresolved issues.
