The Labour Court recommended that an unnamed assistant director of residential care at Belmont Park Hospital continue to act up under his contract when required. The recommendation was dated 31 July 1989. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union said the hospital's proposed change would diminish the worker's status after he placed fourth in a competition for director. Belmont Park Hospital argued that management should follow the interview board's recommendations. The Court found the proposed change and resulting loss of status unfair and inequitable. On the separate salary-scale claim, it recommended that the parties meet for further discussion without setting a scale.
