In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Musgraves Limited extend to Dublin employees the £50 per year of service payment offered to Cork employees after the sale of its frozen foods division. The recommendation was signed on 27 July 1989. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union, No. 2 and No. 3 Branches, sought four weeks' pay for each year of service for Dublin workers. Musgraves Limited argued that the management buyout had preserved jobs, pay and service rights, and that the Cork offer remained available to Dublin staff. The Court said a larger service-related liability could hinder the new company's establishment. It recommended extending the Cork payment offer to Dublin staff in settlement of the claim.
