The Labour Court recommended that Douwe Egberts Limited end a special allowance for greaser-cleaners after two weeks and use an existing compensation formula to calculate their compensation. The recommendation, signed on 19 July 1988, followed claims brought by the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union for 19 workers. The Court also recommended using the same formula to compensate greaser-cleaners for reducing their shift premium from 20.75% to 20%. It did not recommend conceding the senior greaser-cleaners' claim to join the day-work rota, and recommended further talks about their work on the security system. For the cutting-room workers, the Court recommended that the allowance continue for the time being because the basis for introducing it was unclear and some of the original conditions might still apply.
