In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding a union claim for extra daily pay for five workers at St. Luke's Hospital. The recommendation was signed on 9 June 1988. Irish Transport And General Workers' Union argued that the workers carried out maintenance duties for which maintenance helpers received allowances. St. Luke's Hospital said the workers' grades and pay arrangements differed from those of maintenance helpers. The Court said their duties had not changed in a way that merited increased pay.
