In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Burren Cinema pay £180 to a cinema manager dismissed in September 1986, after the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union brought a claim on the worker's behalf. The recommendation was signed on 3 March 1988. Burren Cinema said the worker had failed to perform his duties and alleged misconduct. The union disputed the allegations and sought compensation. The company did not attend the hearing in Limerick, but sent written submissions and affidavits; the Court based its recommendation on the evidence presented at the hearing.
