In 1987, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Amalgamated Engineering Union and Electrical Trades Union claim for extra annual leave at Gypsum Industries P.L.C. The recommendation was signed on 15 December 1987. The unions wanted to convert part of the wage increase into extra holidays. The company said leave already compared favourably with similar workers elsewhere and that further leave would create operational difficulties. The Court cited operational difficulties and said current holiday entitlement was in line with industry generally.
