The Labour Court recommended a phased pay increase for about 90 workers at Tech Industries Limited, following a claim by the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union. The recommendation was signed on 4 November 1987. The union sought a 10% rise for 12 months and a phased reduction in working hours from 40 to 35 a week without loss of pay. Tech Industries said competitive pressures and cost control limited what it could offer. The Court recommended that the company's offer be amended to provide a 3% increase for nine months from 1 March 1987, a further 3% from 1 December 1987 and a final 2% from 1 September 1988, ending on 28 February 1989. It recommended that the union accept the amended offer.
