The Labour Court recommended that 296 workers at Crown Controls Ltd accept the company’s 5% pay offer in a decision signed on 31 October 1986. The dispute involved the Amalgamated Engineering Union.
The union had sought a 20% increase over 12 months, an extra service holiday and personal-time allowances. Crown Controls said its offer was the maximum it could afford in its current trading position, and pointed to a 5% increase already agreed in connection with productivity.
The Court considered the company’s trading position and found its offer reasonable. It recommended that the workers accept it.
