The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Santry Food Services Limited Camile Thai to pay compensation to chef Sujeer Thayyil after upholding complaints over rest breaks, weekly hours, weekly rest and several pay entitlements. The decision, dated 14 July 2025, included two separate awards of €12,742.60, one for rest-break breaches and one for exceeding the 48-hour weekly limit.
Adjudication officer Breiffni O’Neill found that restaurant demands shaped Thayyil’s working hours and the respondent had not produced records showing required breaks. The officer also upheld complaints over Sunday premium, wages for hours worked, public holidays, annual leave and statutory sick pay. The company conceded the public holiday, annual leave and weekly-rest claims. A complaint for wages for time not worked was not well founded; five complaints were withdrawn, and the officer declined jurisdiction over the dismissal complaint after finding no dismissal had occurred.
