The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Simone Woods €5,000 compensation after finding that Uber Ireland Center of Excellence Ltd unfairly dismissed her. The decision was dated 3 April 2025.
Woods complained that Uber dismissed her for abandoning her Community Support Representative role while she was absent. Uber said it ended her employment after her medical certificate expired and it received no reply to contact attempts, then rescinded the dismissal and offered her continued employment. The adjudicator found the dismissal rested on mistaken facts and Woods had no opportunity to defend herself, while also finding she contributed significantly by not returning calls. Woods declined the offer to return and the adjudicator said her efforts to find other work fell short of what was required to limit her losses.
