The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Patrick Merlehan to pay Derek Darling €400 after finding that Darling’s interest in viewing a rental property was refused because of his disability. The decision was dated 2 April 2025.
Darling said an email response stated the property was available only through private agreements and that it had no facilities for people needing assistance. Adjudication Officer Seamus Clinton found the email evidence and Merlehan’s failure to answer the complaint supported an inference of discrimination. Merlehan did not attend the hearing or reply to the notification.
