The Workplace Relations Commission found Richard Boylan’s redundancy complaint well founded and directed Construction Project Support Service Limited to pay him a €3,624 lump sum. The decision was dated 4 January 2024. Boylan’s job at a client site in Leixlip ended after his employer lost the contract there. The company offered him alternative work in Cork, which he refused, seeking redundancy pay instead. The adjudication officer found the Cork role was not suitable given Boylan’s Dublin base and family obligations. The employer pointed to a contract clause allowing travel, but had not instructed him to transfer under it. The award calculation excluded a lay-off period and sick leave exceeding six months from reckonable service.
