In 1999, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that a former Avonmore Waterford Group canteen assistant’s redundancy claim should fail. The Court said she had provided no evidence that she objected to moving from first relief and had not worked for the company for four years. The Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union appealed after the Dungarvan plant closed in 1998, arguing that the worker remained on the company’s books and was covered by the closure agreement. Avonmore said the package applied only to staff employed at the time and that she had not worked there since 1994. The Labour Court decision was signed on 18 October 1999.
