In 1998, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal and upheld a recommendation that Roscrea Fresh Foods pay a worker a lump sum equal to 13 weeks’ lost shift premium. The Court signed its decision on 16 December 1998. The worker had moved from shift work to day work in August 1997. The union sought compensation equal to 104 weeks of the £32 weekly loss. The company offered seven weeks’ compensation, saying the shift work had ended after the pudding operation moved and that the worker had no guarantee of continuous shift work.
