Labour Court refuses Mr Paul McDonnell more time for wage deduction complaint against Bus Eireann

The Labour Court refused Mr Paul McDonnell an extension of time for his Payment of Wages Act complaint against Bus Eireann. The determination was dated 14 January 2022. The complaint concerned an alleged wage deduction on 23 July 2020. McDonnell referred it on 2 February 2021, after the six-month time limit had expired. He said ongoing discussions between his union and Bus Eireann about annual leave explained the delay. The Court found that explanation did not excuse the delay and said he should have referred the complaint when it became apparent the internal process was unlikely to finish within the time limit. The merits of the alleged deduction were not decided.
