The Labour Court recommended that South-East Technological University concede a claim by 13 Portering Staff for lost earnings during the pandemic, in a recommendation dated 4 March 2025. The staff, represented by the Services, Industrial, Professional and Technical Union and Unite the Union, said their pay between March 2020 and March 2022 omitted established overtime.
The University argued that the overtime was optional and not rostered, and that it was not payable for hours not worked. The Court found the staff’s established work patterns included regular, rostered overtime during term time, and recommended that their claim be conceded.
