The Labour Court recommended that the Food Safety Promotions Board (Safefood) implement a grading review it had commissioned, effective from 18 April 2008. In a recommendation signed on 22 June 2010, the Court noted that the review found five of six posts undergraded and one properly graded. The Association of Higher Civil & Public Servants and the Public Service Executive Union said five staff in the Corporate Operations Directorate were graded below the responsibilities of their posts. Management argued that the review had been commissioned without approval, its comparators were flawed and the necessary departmental sanction for upgrades was absent.
