Labour Court rejects Curragh Racecourse proposal to cut basic pay

The Labour Court recommended that The Curragh Racecourse and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union seek other ways to reduce staff costs rather than reduce basic pay. In a recommendation signed on 22 June 2010, the Court said it could not justify a pay cut on the information before it and advised both sides to review the position at the end of 2010. The company said falling attendance at the racecourse and losses elsewhere made a staff pay reduction necessary for future viability. The union opposed unilateral cuts and said management should agree to an independent assessment of its finances.
