The Labour Court recommended that Boc Gases Ireland Limited honour its 2005 driver manning agreement and urgently discuss future staffing levels with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was dated 10 December 2009. The union said agreed staffing levels should be honoured and that departing workers should be replaced. The company said surplus staffing, a recruitment freeze and a downturn in business meant a retiring weekend ferry driver did not need to be replaced. The Court said clear agreements on manning levels had been in place, including the 2005 agreement, and recommended that both sides hold discussions through their existing procedures.
