The Labour Court recommended that National University Of Ireland - Galway bring sports attendants’ cash-handling allowance into line with the top driving allowance rate from May 2001, subject to agreement on a review of the university’s long-term sports-services needs and possible efficiencies. Its recommendation was dated 31 May 2004. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the 1997 agreement linked the cash-handling allowance to the driving rate and sought the increase from May 2001. The university said it needed to complete a review and disputed that the allowances were equivalent. The Court found the allowance had been linked to the driving rate and said the attendants should not be disadvantaged because the review had not taken place.
