The Labour Court recommended that North Western Health Board not concede a union claim for relocation payments for workers moving from a residential care unit outside Sligo to community-based care. Its recommendation was dated 31 May 2004. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Irish Nurses Organisation argued that the changes would disrupt workers’ lives and could affect location allowances. The Board said the move was voluntary, involved little disruption and would provide an improved working environment.
