The Labour Court recommended compensation for five Lund International workers redeployed during restructuring, including two years’ loss of their Basic Added Payment. The recommendation was signed on 21 June 2000. Six lead hands had moved to machine operator or machine setter roles, losing about £91 a week; the union’s claim and the recommendation covered five. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought two years’ loss of earnings, citing the effect on workers’ finances and pension benefits. Lund International said restructuring was needed to reduce costs and argued the claim would cost about £10,000 per person. The Court said the earnings loss was substantial and was concerned about future pension losses. It recommended one to two years’ loss of additional payments depending on service, pro rata between those terms, with half paid on acceptance and the balance four months later.
