The Labour Court recommended that John A Wood Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union work towards a work-to-finish system, teamworking and flexibility between crafts for 12 craftsmen affected by the Ballincollig garage closure. The recommendation was signed on 12 June 2000. The dispute also concerned seniority and outsourcing. The Court recommended that the company and union agree maintenance programmes for machinery other than new equipment covered by maintenance guarantees, and said the union should accept contractors in light of the company’s commitments. If compulsory layoffs or redundancy arose, the Court recommended addressing seniority then, using the company’s assurances as the basis for resolving disputes.
