The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Robert Roberts’ pay proposal for manufacturing workers, including compulsory Autopay. The recommendation was signed on 12 June 2000. The union sought pay increases similar to those agreed for warehouse staff and wanted Autopay to be voluntary, along with a £500 payment for workers’ cooperation. The company said its proposal could result in weekly increases of more than £22. The Court recommended that the productivity element be adjusted and paid retrospectively from 1 April 2000 if the proposal was accepted in full. It also recommended urgent attention to difficulties with Autopay and that future payment dates be observed.
