The Labour Court recommended that Smith Mc Laurin Limited apply its 1997 redundancy terms to two workers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 17 August 1999. The company had offered one week’s pay per year of service up to age 40 and one and a half weeks per year over age 40. The union sought the earlier package, which included four weeks’ pay and £50 per year of service, with no cap and other terms. The Court found no sufficient reason to depart from the previously applied terms.
