In 1998, the Labour Court recommended a new survey to help resolve a dispute over the maximum number of bin lifts by Limerick Corporation refuse collection crews. The Corporation sought agreement on about 18,000 lifts a week, while the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union argued that current crews could not increase their workload and proposed a fifth truck. The Court recommended that the previous survey team complete a new survey within two months and that the parties agree all aspects of the operation, including a proper maximum per truck. The recommendation was dated 8 May 1998.
