In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that University College Cork concede a union claim to include weekend allowances in general attendants' pension entitlements. The decision was dated 27 April 1998. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said weekend rota work was a permanent feature and argued the allowance should count as pensionable pay. University College Cork said only allowances paid every week of the year qualified. The Court found the allowances were permanent and paid as remuneration, and recommended conceding the claim.
