In 1998, the Labour Court declined to recommend L.B.J. Catering concede the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim to raise hourly pay from £4.26 to £5.00. It recommended negotiations on a suitable sick-pay scheme. The recommendation was dated 25 March 1998. L.B.J. Catering said its rates were above Joint Labour Committee levels and that it could not absorb the cost of sick pay. The Court found a wage increase would conflict with Programme 2000.
