In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Securicor Ireland Limited apply an 8pm threshold for a late-finish allowance to cash-in-transit drivers from 1 April, subject to agreement with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union on payment conditions. It also recommended payment to two individuals for half the runs they completed after 8pm during the disputed period. The union said an allowance arrangement had been in place since 1986 and was withdrawn without consultation in 1994. The company said the general arrangement applied after 9pm, with a special arrangement for one run. The Labour Court said the parties disagreed about the basis for payment and there was no clearly written agreement. Its recommendation was dated 26 March 1998.
