In 1997, the Labour Court recommended a total payment of £15,000 to about 61 static guards employed by Securicor (Ireland) Limited at its Limerick base. The recommendation was signed on 10 June 1997. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought retrospective payment over a public-holiday calculation that had paid overtime only after 48 hours rather than 40. Securicor (Ireland) Limited said it had not agreed to retrospective correction and argued that a payment could set a precedent. The Court recommended dividing the sum among the claimants on an agreed basis, without precedent.
