Labour Court recommends 2% pay phase for Cappoquin Chickens workers

The Labour Court recommended that Cappoquin Chickens pay workers the first 2% phase of the P.C.W. from 1 July 1994, with other outstanding amounts to await negotiation when the company’s financial position improved. The recommendation was signed on 8 July 1994. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought unpaid increases and arrears under earlier national agreements, citing workers’ pay concessions and savings for the company. Cappoquin Chickens said losses made further increases unaffordable and could put jobs at risk. The Court accepted that its financial position prevented payment of phase two and three increases and phase-one back-money at that time, but said nationally agreed increases could not be withheld indefinitely.
