In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Advance Tyre Company Limited give a worker first call on any temporary work that became available. The recommendation followed a union dispute over his unsuccessful application for a permanent job at the company’s Waterford outlet. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the worker was passed over because of his age. The company denied discrimination and said outlet staff needed a full driving licence. The Court’s recommendation was dated 30 November 1993.
