In 1993, the Labour Court found that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's interpretation of Medite Of Europe Limited's 39-hour week agreement was correct. The agreement provided for 39 basic hours plus two hours at time and a half each week for continuous-shift employees. The Court recommended that, if the clause could impede the company's plans to expand and hire, both sides negotiate how it would apply to new employees. The recommendation was signed on 16 November 1993.
