Labour Court recommends limits on customer collections at W. J. Dwan and Sons

In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that W. J. Dwan And Sons Limited allow customers to collect products from its depots only when required by a new contract, and only with an undertaking that no jobs would be lost. The dispute concerned six drivers. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said an agreement protected their jobs, while the company argued that flexibility was needed to compete for business. For long-standing customers seeking to change collection arrangements, the Court said the company should discuss and agree the change with the unions first. The parties were to review the arrangement after a year. The recommendation was dated 7 October 1993.
