In 1993, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim over the filling of a hairdressing instructor vacancy at Foras Aiseanna Saothair (Fas)’s Loughlinstown Training Centre. The recommendation was dated 30 August 1993. A worker from FAS’s Athlone Training Centre applied for the post, which went to an external candidate. The union relied on her experience, qualifications and transfer procedures. FAS said instructor posts were filled through competition and the applicant had six months of probation left. The Court found the union had not made a case for recommending that its claim be conceded and suggested that the parties review procedures for transfer requests.
