In 1992, the Labour Court recommended an ex-gratia payment of £1,500 to settle a grading dispute involving Tralee Vocational Education Committee (V.E.C.), the DEPARTMENTS OF EDUCATION AND FINANCE, the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and a worker. It did not recommend conceding the union’s claim to upgrade the worker’s post. The recommendation was signed on 19 November 1992. The worker had been appointed caretaker at the Regional Technical College, Tralee, in 1968. The Court found no confirmation that an approved agricultural technician vacancy existed or that the V.E.C. had sought departmental approval, but said the title used in a 1970 committee minute had raised expectations.
