Labour Court recommends Lakelands 3% rise with changes to hours and allowances

In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Lakelands Dairies Co-Operative Society Limited concede workers' 3% pay claim, with changes to clerical hours and specified allowances. The recommendation, signed on 19 November, followed a dispute with Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over the terms for implementing the increase. The union argued the proposed concessions outweighed the pay rise; the employer said it needed a self-financing arrangement. Clerical staff would move to a 37.5-hour week, with pay scales adjusted for the extra hours. The Court rejected a proposed cut to holiday entitlement and set out lump sums for workers losing specified payments.
