In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that University College Cork pay £1,500 to a worker for taking on higher-grade duties between February 1988 and September 1990. The recommendation was signed on 10 April 1992. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought about £2,000, saying the worker continued doing complex higher-grade work after her regrading application was refused. The College said the duties were not formally assigned and that its grading procedures had been followed. The Court found that the worker had done work appropriate to a higher grade. It recommended less than the full amount claimed because the work was not formally assigned and the extent of the extra responsibilities could not be established.
