In 1992, the Labour Court did not recommend concession of I.C.T.U. Trade Union Group's claim for compensation after shift work ended at Bord Na Mona's Boora and Blackwater works. The dispute concerned about 200 permanent and seasonal workers. The union sought compensation equal to three times the annual loss of shift premium. Bord Na Mona said declining sales and high stock levels led it to end shifts, and that conceding the claim could undermine cost competitiveness. The Court cited the decline in the Board's trade and found the loss essentially temporary while new work systems were introduced. The recommendation was signed on 10 April 1992.
