In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Reliability Nederland B.V. pay workers two weeks’ pay per year of service on top of its offer of statutory entitlements and the 60% rebate due to the company. The recommendation was dated 4 December 1991. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union brought the claim after the company announced the closure of its Nenagh operations. The union said the plant remained viable, that orders worth £226,000 were transferred overseas, and that non-union salaried staff had received substantially higher redundancy payments. The company said it would not attend the hearing.
