In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Allied Distributive Merchants continue paying clerical staff a Christmas bonus for as long as warehouse staff receive one, unless a productivity deal is reached with warehouse staff. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought an ongoing bonus for clerical staff. The company said a £200 payment in 1989 was a once-off goodwill gesture, while the union said it understood the payment to be ongoing. The Court investigated the dispute on 29 October and signed its recommendation on 4 December 1991.
