The Labour Court recommended that the Southern Health Board increase its compensation offer to psychiatric nurses affected by roster changes, to an amount equivalent to two years’ lost earnings. The recommendation was signed on 21 October 1991. The dispute concerned night-duty nurses at Our Lady’s and St. Stephens Psychiatric Hospitals in Cork and the loss of overtime earnings following changes connected with the 39-hour week. The Psychiatric Nurses Association had sought compensation of five times the annual loss. The Court also recommended that staff accept the revised offer and that the new rosters be implemented without delay, with the hours reduction effective from 1 September 1990.
