In 1991, the Labour Court rejected the National Bus And Rail Union’s claim for compensation for two Iarnrod Eireann train guards who lost overtime earnings after roster changes. The union had quantified its claim at £1,560 for each guard. The recommendation was signed on 7 October 1991. The Court found no basis to support the claim and upheld the company’s position. The union said the lost overtime had been regular and rostered; the company argued that timetable changes were an accepted feature of employment and the guards had enjoyed the enhanced earnings only briefly.
