In 1991, the Labour Court recommended phased P.E.S.P. pay increases and a higher shift premium for workers at Waterford Regional Airport P.L.C., while declining a Christmas bonus claim by the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union. The recommendation was signed on 27 September 1991. The Court recommended a one-sixth shift premium in place of the £12 allowance and phased pay increases from 1 September 1991, 1 April 1992 and 1 April 1993, including a 4% payment for April to August 1991 payable at the start of the third phase. The union represented four ground support staff and two operations officers. It argued their pay lagged behind local norms and sought a two-week Christmas bonus. The company cited past wage increases, operating losses and reduced airline capacity in opposing further increases.
