In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Verbatim Limited recognise the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s right to represent its members at the company. The recommendation was dated 6 August 1991. The union sought recognition after the company stopped recognising it for negotiations, including on an equal pay claim involving machinists. Verbatim said its internal employee relations procedures were sufficient and that most workers were not interested in joining a union.
