In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Clare County Council’s compensation offer to a water caretaker and agree to use the Doolough Plant as the mileage base from 1 January 1987. The union had sought to keep the worker’s home as the base and recover expenses retrospectively. The Council said the home had never been an established base and previous payments based on it were made in error.
