In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Pretty Polly (Killarney) Limited not concede the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim to extend a £250 payment to all knitting-room staff. The recommendation was signed on 24 July 1990. The union argued that shift fixers, mechanics and yarn loaders were also affected by the additional knitting machines and should receive the payment made available to knitters. Pretty Polly said the earlier recommendation applied only to knitters operating the extra machines and that other workers’ circumstances differed. The Court found no grounds to concede the claim.
