In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Athlone Urban District Council (U.D.C.) pay a traffic warden allowances normally paid to local authority operatives on the same grade, backdated to their introduction. The recommendation was dated 19 July 1990. Local Government And Public Services Union sought pay and conditions in line with Dublin traffic wardens. The council argued that the warden’s salary was linked to provincial refuse workers and that Dublin wardens had different employment and pension arrangements. The Court considered his salary in line with similar workers generally but recommended the additional allowances.
